Dawson Leffingwell
Born in the great state of Kansas, Dawson Leffingwell is an award-winning music educator and percussion specialist with extensive experience in both teaching and arranging. Dawson is committed to inspiring and guiding the next generation of musicians through his dedication to education, leadership, and community involvement. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Oklahoma State University, where he studied under Wayne Bovenschen and Dr. Howard Potter.
Dawson currently serves as the Field Percussion Coordinator at Muskogee Public Schools. In the spring of 2024, he established the first ever competitive indoor percussion ensemble in Muskogee history, which culminated in a State Championship in the Winter Guard & Percussion of Oklahoma Scholastic Marching B Class.
During the summer, Dawson also serves as the Band Director at Oklahoma American Legion Boys State. He has demonstrated a commitment to excellence that has been recognized with both the Glenn Reeder Award for Administrative Excellence in 2023, and the John Ruth Award for Excellence in Counseling in 2021.
Dawson is a proud alumnus of Kingfisher High School, Resistance Indoor Percussion (2016-2019), Compass Drum and Bugle Corps (2021), and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.
