William Woodworth
Dr. William Woodworth is the Director of Athletic Bands at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. As Director of Athletic Bands, since his appointment at the position in 2015, his primary responsibilities in the fall are directing all aspects of the Emporia State Marching Hornets, including drill writing and design for the program. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree with an emphasis in wind conducting in 2009 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earned a Master of Music degree from UNLV in 2005,and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University of Wyoming in 2001.
Prior to the current appointment at ESU, Dr. Woodworth had been a high school band director in Las Vegas, Nevada from 2005 to 2015, a graduate teaching assistant for the UNLV Bands from 2003 to 2005, and an assistant director of bands in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2002.
Having first learned to design drill in 1998, Dr. Woodworth has been a working custom marching band drill designer since 2002. Since this time, he has designed drill for competitive and non-competitive high schools and college marching programs of all sizes, across the United States. Additionally, in this time he has been both a consultant and has written drill for indoor drumlines and winter guards alike.
In 2023, Dr. Woodworth was the drill designer for the Troopers Legacy Corps, which was the featured alumni corps performance at Semi-Finals of the Drum Corps International World Championships. Dr. Woodworth is a published music composer and arranger and has adjudicated for several marching events across the United States, specializing in visual analysis, visual ensemble and general effect. In addition to his education and experience, Dr. Woodworth was a contra bass (tuba) performer of the 1995 Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps.
