Steve Vickers

Steve Vickers began his drum corps career 62 years ago (1961) when he joined the Sky Ryders’® feeder corps, the Jets, moving up to the big corps in 1967 and aging out in 1970. A 1971 graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in journalism and graphic design, he was hired as editor of Drum Corps World in Golden, Colorado, in June 1973 and purchased the then-tabloid newspaper in 1974, moving to Madison, Wisconsin, in 1979. In May 2011 he took the publication onto the Internet as a free on-line magazine.

He served 26 years on the Madison Scouts’ Board of Directors and was responsible for getting the use of Camp Randall Stadium on the University of Wisconsin campus for the DCI Championships, serving as chairman of the 1985, 1986, 1987 (15th anniversary), 1992 (20th anniversary), 1997 (30th anniversary), 2002 (35th anniversary) and 2006 seasons.

He sold the on-line magazine in March 2023, but will remain as editor until March 2025, then a contributor of historical material.
